My family and I will be traveling to Japan in mid- to late-January. Outside of Kyoto and Tokyo, what are some of the best places to visit during this month (better weather, festivals, etc.)? Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

In January, the sea of Japan coast area from northern Japan to Chugoku region and mountainous Chubu Region should be covered with snow.
