Hi,
Is it a good idea to self drive for kansai area? We plan to visit osaka, kyoto, kobe, takayama / wakayama.. Is the climate harsh and road snow-covered in late november?
We had a good time self-driving in hokkaido recently, but didn't manage to find a lot of info regarding self drive in kansai

In urban areas: generally not In rural areas: generally yes

Driving is not recommended in Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe. Takayama (outside the Kansai Region) is well served by public transportation and a car is not needed. As for Wakayama, the city of Wakayama is best accessed by train. Koyasan is also best accessesd by public transportation. But for exploring the Kumano region, a rental car is recommended.

Not yet. The lower elevations are still in the autumn color season. Only Takayama has a low chance of seeing snow in late November.
