Osaka's main train station 2010/7/4 21:15
What is the main (non-shinkansen) train station in Osaka - I am looking for one that's close to mid-range accommodation & food outlets (cafes, resturants etc)?

Osaka/Umeda Station 2010/7/5 10:22
I think Osaka/Umeda Station (the name depends on the company, but they are basically adjacent) is the main station in Osaka, and youll be able to find both mid-range accommodation and food outlets in the area.

Hey liem and rosie,

I think Osaka/Umeda is probably the "main" station, but Namba would also be good for accommodation, and probably better for food.

The Japanese cities of Osaka (& Tokyo) are enough populated to keep multiple transportation hubs within the city. I agree with Terminator2 that Osaka station is the main one. You can easily find shops and restaurants around Osaka, Namba, Tennoji and Kyobashi stations.

Which area is the most convenient depends on what you plan to do in Osaka and Kansai. But Osaka will probably the best bet if you plan to travel to surrounding cities(Kyoto, Kobe etc.).
