accomodations in Shikinejima 2010/8/17 06:40
I am planning to visit Japan in september and I am considering to spend one day in Shikinejima (or any other island nearby tokyo that you may recommend) and would like to know if you have a recommendation for a cheap hotel/ryokan/minshuku.

Thanks in advance.

great island! 2010/8/17 16:07
shikinejima is beautiful Ive been there 3 times. Dont bother visiting Nijima unless you are a surfer or into glasswork.
I recommend camping at Oura camp site in Shikinejima. I tried a self catering cottage once but only because it was raining. The campsite is free and is set up on a slight hill overlooking the beach, spectacular sunsets. The camping experience was far more enjoyable and free!
they have washrooms and showers and BBQ areas all free. we just collected driftwood from the beach and cooked on that each night. photos taken at Oura beach campsite here

I stayed at early bird cottage, it was fine clean but not as good as camping. a bit inland so no views of anything. perferctly fine though, comfortable western beds.

Short answer: no. However, there are many sites on the internet where you can translate the page into English (sort of). It's a literal translation, but it more often than not gives you a good idea what the page is telling you.Google and FoxLingo provide these services.
