What is the fare for the express bus and the normal bus from Gifu to Gujo Hachiman ? Is there a bus schedule available online ?

Is it cheaper to travel by bus from Gifu or by train from Mino Ota ?

I am not aware of a "normal" bus between Gifu and Gujo. Just an express bus. The one way fare is 1480 yen.

Below is the timetable in Japanese:
http://www.gifubus.co.jp/highway/express/gifu_hati.html

名鉄岐阜 is Meitetsu Gifu Station
JR岐阜 is JR Gifu Station
郡上八幡城下町プラザ is Jokamachi Plaza bus stop in central Gujo Town
八幡営業所 is Hachiman Eigyosho bus stop outside of the town center

The bus stops are shown on the map on the following page:

By train it costs 1800 yen one way (480 yen for JR and 1320 yen for Nagaragawa Railway). The train station of Gujo is outside of the town center.

train if possible 2010/8/19 12:25
I went from Tsumago to GujoHachiman and took the train (from Nakatsugawa) - rather three trains....the last one, the Nagaragawa train was one car - it was really wonderful to go from a JR line to a little local train....I would recommend going by train if it works for your itinerary.....

Gifu to Gujo Hachiman 2010/8/19 19:05
FROM NAGOYA (approximately 2 hours) The direct highway bus from Nagoya's Meitetsu Bus Centre is the easiest and most convenient way to reach Gujo Hachiman. Visitors traveling by bus arrive in the centre of town at Gujo Hachiman Jokamachi Plaza - walking distance to many hotels and ryokans. The journey affords travelers scenic views of the surrounding countryside. Direct buses to Gujo Hachiman depart Nagoya twice a day - once in the morning, and once in the afternoon.

There is also frequent train service from the Nagoya Meitetsu Station to the Gifu terminal via the Meitetsu Line, and very frequent JR rail service to the Gifu JR station from the Nagoya JR Station. Both the Meitestu and Gifu JR stations are close to the Gifu Bus Centre for onward connection to Gujo Hachiman.

From Nagoya's Chubu International Airport (approximately 3 1/2 hours) take the Meitetsu Miu train directly from the airport to the Meitetsu Gifu station and connect to the Gifu Bus. (Approximately 3 hours from Chubu International Airport)
