Is it a good day to visit Mt Shirane (going from Kusatsuonsen)? What will the wether be like ?
Can you walk around and get close to the crater on foot ?
Is 2 and a half hours sufficient for the visit and walk around ?

Is it a good day to visit Mt Shirane (going from Kusatsuonsen)? What will the wether be like ?
The weather cannot be accurately forecast for more than a couple of days. In mid September, the area generally sees about 40% sunny days on which visibility is usually quite good and about 50% rainy days on which there is a higher risk of bad visibility.
Can you walk around and get close to the crater on foot ?
You cannot walk around. And you cannot walk just next to it. There is a distance between the tourists and the crater lake.
Is 2 and a half hours sufficient for the visit and walk around ?
More than enough. You only need around 30-60 minutes for seeing the crater lake only. That does not include the bus ride there and back.
