Low cost train ride Yokohama to Fukuoka 2010/9/15 09:01
We have a baseball team who is playing games in Yokohama and in Fukuoka and want to know if there is another option for train travel besides the Bullet train to go from Yokohama to Fukuoka...I have heard that there is another slightly slower train that will get us from Yokohama to Fukuoka costing less money....also will we be able to take our luggage on this train?

There isn't a single alternative train, using non-Shinkansen services would require an average of between 9 and 16 transfers and take around 27 hours. I think the only alternative would be a bus service.

Fukuoka is also very far. You might want to consider taking flying to fukuoka as sometimes the plane tickets might be slightly cheaper than shinkansen during promotion period. It is also faster to certain extent (if you consider that you will need time to go to airport and also check in) It is also convenient for luggages. Alternatively - shinkansen or bus

You might try the new Bus Pass. A 3 day ticket is 8,000 yen. Check out this website:

If you're already in Japan, it will be of no use to you as the ticket must be purchased outside of Japan.

It seems that to fly with skymark airlines for around $120 is the best option in cost and time...

Skymark can cost under 10,000 yen per person if you reserve early:
