I am planning to travel to Japan near year end(3 o 5 weeks) and hope to visit some touristy places to see autumn scenes like maple leaves as well as snow scenes.

Which 2 areas will you recommend during the same period or close dates ?

When exactly will you be there? Late December? Early December? Late November? Early November? It makes a big difference.
