Nikko - 1 or 2 days 2010/10/4 11:35
Hi,

Is 2 day (1 night onsen hotel) enough time for Nikko, Edo Wonderland? I plan to leave Tokyo early in the morning to arrive in Nikko, spend a day before heading to Honke Bankyu ryokan at 5... I will head back to Niiko late morning and visit Edo Wonderland and Kegon Falls and the lake.

Or should I do Nikko + Edo Wonderland on Day 1 instead?

Thanks

John

Your ryokan is located in quite far in the mountains. Make sure to check the timetables:

Note also the location of Edo Wonderland as opposed to the locations of Nikko town and Kegon Waterfall. All of them are quite far apart from each other:

How to distribute the destinations depends a little bit on how much you want to see in the town of Nikko (just Toshogu? or also some or all of the other shrines and temples?) and on your travel pace. Also, in the Okunikko region, do you just want to see Kegon waterfall or more than just the waterfall?

To fully enjoy your ryokan, I recommend to arrive there at 5pm at the latest. I suggest to plan accordingly.

How much time should I resere for Kagon fall? I hope to catch autumn foilage there for pictures so maybe like 1 - 2 hrs?

I probably leave for the osen at around 3:30PM...

Another alternative for me on Day 1 is ge to Nikko by 10-11, spend 2-3 hrs in Nikko, go to Edo Wonderland for 3 hrs) and then from there head straight to the Honke Bankyo.

Then for Day 2 I will do Kagon falls and rest of Nikko until late afternoon/early evening..

What do you think?

Thanks
