Japan in January 2010/10/6 01:10
Hi,
We are getting married late December and thinking of spending our honeymoon in Japan. We plan to travel around 10th Jan. for 7-10 days. The only concern is going to be weather during this time. We plan to visit Tokyo, Nikko, Kamakura, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka. Days being short is also a concern with places of interest closing early.

Honeymoon in Japan! Never mind the time of year, it'll be fantastic! :D

It'll be chilly, but I'm English so "chilly" to me is about 0-3C. In rural areas it may drop below zero, but in cities you're unlikely to see any snow.

Temples, shrines, museums and such do tend to close earlier in Winter, but only by 30 minutes or an hour usually. Check this website for details of the sites you wish to visit to ensure you don't arrive at any too late.

The advantage of Japan is that many city shops are open until at least 19:00 - 20:00, so you can still explore in the evenings and find things to do. Restaurants are open late also, as are Izakaya. Finding dinner won't be a problem.

Hakone is pricey any time of year, but cheaper in Winter while Mt. Fuji is closed to climbers. You can often get clearer views in the Winter, though, and Fuji-san is stunning when covered in snow :)

Have a great time!

The weather tends to be good in January in the cities and towns you listed. The opening hours at some outdoor sites are a little bit shorter than in summer, but usually only by around one hour. It should not be a problem.
