Snowboarding near Tokyo 2010/12/15 10:11
Im currently living in tokyo. I just moved here and this will be my first boarding season.

Can anyone tell me when the season starts and ends? I assume it has already begun.

Where are good places to go boarding near tokyo? I would love to hear all of your suggestions!

The season has probably started up in Hokkaido, but I'm not sure about resorts close to Tokyo. This site is pretty helpful for information.

As for resorts close to Tokyo, I usually like to take day trips up to the various resorts in Niigata. The Shinkansen only takes around 1.5 hours one way so you can go up in the morning, snowboard during the day, and then return in the evening. Its makes for a long day, but worth it.

Hope this helps.

It was just in the news today that a warm winter so far has delayed the season start in some resorts, but that colder weather and snow is expected in the near future:

But some resorts have already opened both on Honshu and Hokkaido:
