Private guide in Kyoto 2011/1/30 22:00
Do somebody know an english speaking guide in Kyoto ?
We are staying at Ryokan Shimizu just north of the station.
It's our first trip to Japan, and we have only 3 days in kyoto / Nara. I guess it could be a good start in the city with a half or full day guide ?
Best regards Jesper

Private guides are very expensive--35,000 yen +/day. Try a volunteer guide:

You are very brave to be staying at ryoukan during your first visit to Japan, Jesper san, and above gave you good recommendations.
I find taxi tour to be very accommodating as far as navigating a tour in comfortable mode throughout Kyoto. The driver spoke English so it was very helpful for my guests. The driver will not walk with you at the temples and etc but he will drive you to and from each location another and were very knowledgeable. Most temples and etc will provide informations on brochures printed in English available to the guests.
'Doi Taxi Tour Kyoto' comes to mind and I believe he is still in business.
but it's entirely up to individual how you go sight seeing.
