Ryokan recommendation in Kyoto? 2011/1/31 14:52
Hello,

I live in Tokyo and my parents decided that they want to visit me in April. Since it's their first time in Japan, I would like to show them around. I plan to stay 3 nights in Kyoto, since I think this is a "must see" town.

Although I have been multiple times there, I don't know which hotel I should book.

I was thinking about staying in a ryokan, since I think this is an experience which shouldn't be missed.

Could someone recommend me a nice ryokan, which is not too expansive and has also a good location for doing some sightseeing?

Really well rated on tripadvisor (#1 our of 150 or so!) and great price. I'll be there in a 10 days or so..

Read some of the reviews on this website maybe. They are reviews by foreign people who came to Japan. :)

Not a ryokan but 9h capsule hotel in Kyoto designed by fume shibata might be an experience for one of the other nights, (3 nights for a family in a ryokan might be very expensive!)
9h just won a lot of design awards in Asia. Never been but it looks cool, much how I thought a capsule hotel should look when I imagined them, not those grotty morgue-esque things they turned out to be in reality.
Check the web for " 9h Kyoto "
Kyoto is the first but I'm sure 9h will be all over the world before long.

I stayed at the Higashiyama sou ryokan last time during the Gion Matsuri. They remodeled recently and their rooms are nice.
It's right down the street from the Kiyomizu-dera and a bus stop. It also has veiws of the Yasaka pagoda.
