Travelling by Train

I will be doing a lot of travel on trains within Tokyo and Kyoto. Is there English signage on platforms? I am concerned that I will have to navigate by maps to know how many stops I need to take rather than an announcement or looking at platform signs. Especially as I intend to take the Narita express to Tokyo station when I arrive late at night

Don't worry, when it comes to transit and street signs, almost everything is in English! These days on new trains, you even have announcements and signs in Chinese and Korean.
