Zean,

I am also planning to visit Himeji in Apr 2011.
Here is the link for live-web on Himeji Castle update
http://www.winknet.ne.jp/#

as it's all in Japanese, and I can't read them; can someone kindly translate if there is any opening dates in April where tourists are allowed to tour the castle?

From the look of it, would you suggest visiting Himeji castle?

Thanks in advance :)

Hello,

from April 12th you can partly visit Himeji castle. The following website shows a map of the castle. You can visit all places shown on the map except for the red marked one. This is the main part of the castle unfortunately.

Japanese Guest Houses is referring to information from last year (2010).

This year (2011), the interior of the castle will be re-opened from March 26, but the entire structure remains completely covered. However, there will be an observation deck within the cover from where you can observe the restoration works.

If you are a castle fan, I think you would be excited to see the castle from a special observation form while it is being renovated. But to the average tourist it might not be worth it.
