Is it safe to travel to chubu? 2011/3/13 14:53
Hi,my fiance and I are at a delima deciding if we should continue our Japan trip due the
natural disaster and radioactive steam from atomic plants. Our flight to Tokyo
is on 21.3.2011, our plans are to travel to Nagano on 23.3.2011 via shinkansen
before we join our 5 day trip (covering obuse, shirakawa-go, takayama,
matsumoto) on 24.3.2011.

After this, we will be heading to kyoto, then hakone, then back to Tokyo on
3.4.2011.

Would we be able to seek your advice on what the condition is like in these
areas at the moment and if it'll be safe to continue our trip in these areas?

Tokyo and Obuse were shaken quite a bit by the recent Tohoku and Nagano earthquakes, but there was not much damage in either city. Transportation is back to normal, including the Nagano Shinkansen.

The other areas that you visit were even less affected by the earthquakes and you are unlikely to encounter any problems.

The Fukushima nuclear plants do not currently pose a danger outside a small local area.

I would wait a couple more days, look at how things further normalize (hopefully), and in the worst case make a cancellation then. But I don't think it will be necessary.
