Drive to Amanohashidate?

Hi!

My friends and I are planning to go road tripping around beautiful places in Kansai, and we hope to include Amanohashidate. I want to ask how relatively easy to drive up there?

Is there good website(s) that explains recommended routes to take? We have been driving around Tokyo, but this is our first time in Kansai. English is great, but we can manage with Japanese website/info.

Basically we want to drive up to JR Amanohashidate Station, hopefully park around there, and explore the rest of the place on foot.

For driving route search, the following website is easy to use but we find the driving time is over-estimated.
http://www.navitime.co.jp/en/

The following site is more difficult to use (maybe due to our limited kanji knowledge), but we find the quoted driving time is more true to real situation.

In Amanohashidate, note that the cablecar station for the southern viewpoint is within walking distance from the rail station but that of the northern viewpoint is still almost 10 km 15 min drive away.
