What to see in Sendai 2012/3/25 07:01
I'll be in Sendai Monday-Wednesday, what are the spots not to miss? We plan to see Zuihoden Mausoleum, Matsushima Bay and Ichibancho Arcade.

The following page lists sights. You can order them by user ratings to see what other people recommend:

I personally recommend Matsushima and the Zuihoden Mausoleum.

chuckd320,

You may want to take Loople Sendai, the cute and affordable bus that is half local and half touristical.

Nowadays, there are buses like these in a lot of cities in Japan. One ride will give you a simple excursion around the city and you can get off and on at any of your favorite spots.

If you're going to Matsushima and you like temples, may I also suggest the accessable and popular Zuiganji.

This isn't a "sight", exactly, but I would recommend trying Gyutan (beef tongue) while you're in Sendai :) It's their specialty.

Definitely check out Matsushima Bay. A 30-minute boat ride is only about 1,000 yen... well worth it. And be sure to head to the back of the boat to see the seagulls chasing after the craft. Very interesting to see.

If you're gonna be in Sendai the weekend of May 19th-20th, their Aoba Matsuri is quite famous. It's a street-dance festival.

Other than that, sad to say, there isn't a heck of a lot of things to do or see in Sendai itself. To be honest, you can probably see everything in a day or two max, depending on when you go.
