Kansai Area Pass to Iga-Ueno? 2012/5/21 16:14
We'll be coming from Kyoto to Osaka (via JR) then with Osaka as the base we are planning to visit Kobe and Iga.

I know the Kansai Area Pass covers the trip to Osaka and to Kobe, but I'm wondering if I can use it to get to Iga-Ueno?

This site suggests that the pass can be used on the Kansai Main Line: http://www.westjr.co.jp/english/travel-information/pass/

But according to the map I cannot go east towards Mie?

Take Yamatoji Rapid from any station on JR Osaka Loop line. The Rapid is usually bound for Kamo station, 3rd stop from JR Nara

JR West pass is effective until Kizu station, 2nd stop from JR Nara. But that's ok. Continue to travel to JR JR Igaueno station and show the pass and pay 570yen there.

(Sometimes the train staff might ask you to show your ticket on board, but that's no problem either. Just say you would like to travel to Igaueno station, pay 570yen and buy the ticket from the staff.)

After arriving Igaueno station, buy ticket for Iga railway(250yen). JR and Iga Railway share the station building and office. So they are exactly the same place and the difference is only their platforms.

You can also take a taxi from Igaueno station to the castle(only 3kms) and this might be cheaper if you are a group of 3 or more travellers.

Thanks for the reply.

If that's how it is, it isn't worth it for us to buy the pass then.
