Bullet Train 2012/6/5 22:41
Will be in Tokyo this month and I would like to take a short trip on a Bullet Train.
Has anyone got a link to what is available and worth doing.
Thanks

There are dozens of options. What are your interests besides the train ride?

One of the shortest would be a ride to Odawara, where you could see Hakone:

Thanks Uji, my interest are varied, but I do like good open scenery, fields, mountains, just countryside in general.
I am fortunate to have a very nice local lady to show me around Tokyo for 1 day, and point me in the right directions on what to do and see on 3 more days. I was going to go to Kyoto, but I thought if I just took a short trip on a Bullet Train this trip, I could do Kyoto on my next trip latter this year, and spend more time there, instead of just an overnight trip. I just want to ride a Bullet, because it is there.
Thanks

I think Odawara as Uji mentioned is a good option. You can then do the Hakone Round Course and head back to Tokyo using one of the Odakyu trains instead of the Shinkansen if you wish to save some money.
Hakone Round Course:-

I'd also allocate a bit of time just in Odawara station on the platform, as the Nozomi trains do not stop at Odawara so you can watch them rushing through the middle tracks of the station as well.

One other option is to use the Shinkansen to get to Utsunomiya on the way to Nikko. The JR Kanto Pass will cover this journey both ways, or you could just do one way up and come back via Tobu (or the other way around).

Note that with a JR Kanto Pass you can do a few rides on the Shinkansen if you wish:-

Enjoy your trip!

Karuizawa is a popular resort town for people loving countryside life, open scenery, cottage life, golf, fields, mountains. Because it is located on a highland, it is a rather comfortable place even in mid-summer.
Also, Karuizawa is not so far from Mt. Asama, a famous silent (sometimes active) volcano.

Here is a brief guide of Karuizawa:

You can access to Karuizawa by a bullet train for Nagano.
