Obon festivities in Matsuyama?

Hi,

I`ll be staying in Matsuyama on the Monday and Tuesday nights of Obon and I wondered if anyone knew of specific activities, such as a festival, street parade, fireworks etc? I have googled but can`t find anything!

I guess you will miss it since the matsuri is on Fri, Sat. and Sun., Aug. 10, 11 & 12.

On the Saturday and Sunday I'll be in Hiroshima, so I guess I'll have to investigate if their are any celebrations being planned there instead!

Will you be going to Miyajima while you are in Hiroshima!? Miyajima is having a firework display event on the evening of Aug 11 this year.

We had not been to the firework event in Miyajima and can only envy you going at the right time of the year. You can see it from the mainland near the Miyajimaguchi ferry pier area but there is no better place for an up-close encounter than on Miyajima itself. Just be sure to get into position to take a good shot of the low level firework with the silhouette of Otorii in the picture.

According to the following it looks like the firework will be held approaching low tide condition on the evening of Aug 11. Consider getting your feet wet and walk out closer to Otorii for another unique experience.
