Bus fare in Shiretoko National Park 2012/7/13 19:59
Good evening every one!

I'll visit Shiretoko National Park on 1 August 2012 from Abashiri Station.
And I've got the bus timetable from this website. (Thanks a lot for quick update.)

Anyway, I can't find the bus fare from this following routes;

- Shiretoko Shari Station - Kamuiwakka Fall (08:10-10:03 a.m.)
- Kamuiwakka Fall - Shiretoko 5 Lakes (10:53-11:20 a.m.)
- Shiretoko 5 Lakes - Shiretoko Shari Station (14:00-15:20 p.m.)

My questions are as follows;
1. How much does it cost for my trip in Shiretoko National Park?
2. Is there any One Day Bus Pass in that area?
3. If I want to catch a train go back to Abashiri around 15:20 p.m., is it possible for my last bus route? (I think the bus terminal and the train station is very near, so I can run quickly...maybe...)
4. Is it possible for the tourist to bring "Bento" into the Shiretoko 5 Lakes area? Because I want to have my lunch around there.

Thank you in advance from your help!!

Shiretoko Shari Station - Kamuiwakka Fall

I can't find it either. I estimate it costs between 2000 and 2500 yen one way. Phone 0152-23-0766 for details (probably Japanese only).

- Kamuiwakka Fall - Shiretoko 5 Lakes (10:53-11:20 a.m.)

I can't find it, either. I estimate 500 yen one way.

Shiretoko 5 Lakes - Shiretoko Shari Station (14:00-15:20 p.m.)

That's 2000 yen one way.

2. Is there any One Day Bus Pass in that area?

I am not aware of any such passes.

If I want to catch a train go back to Abashiri around 15:20 p.m., is it possible for my last bus route?

I would not rely on it. The cooperation between different transportation companies (e.g. bus/train) in Japan is shockingly bad in some cases. If the bus were to be delayed even by just a little bit, I am pretty sure that the train would not wait for the connection.

Is it possible for the tourist to bring "Bento" into the Shiretoko 5 Lakes area? Because I want to have my lunch around there.

On the trails and elevated walkway it is not allowed to eat because food attracts bears. This is the text from the official website:

Since food can attract bears, food is not allowed unless it is stored in a sealed plastic bag or similar container.
Food must also not be consumed at this time. When these rules are not adhered to, offenders are subject to punishment under the Natural Parks Law.

I went from Shari to Utoro. Next day to Kamuiwakka river onsen, stopped at the Five Lakes on the way back, then back to Shari.
- Shiretoko Shari Station - Kamuiwakka Fall (08:10-10:03 a.m.)
You need to transfer at Utoro bus terminal.
Shari-Utoro:1,600yen o/w
Utoro-Kamuiwakka:1,960yen RT
- Kamuiwakka Fall - Shiretoko 5 Lakes (10:53-11:20 a.m.):You can stop at the Five Lakes, if you go to Kamuiwakka.
- Shiretoko 5 Lakes - Shiretoko Shari Station (14:00-15:20 p.m.):2,000yen
Also if you staop at the Nature Center, watch out. I was waiting for the bus to Utoro but the bus driver took off w/o me so the bus info. staff took me to Utoro in his car.
You can have your lunch/bento at the Five Lake tourist place(restaurants, snacks(have an delicious soft cone), souvenirs, benches, etc.).
You may not be able to walk all five lakes, if there is a chance of bears around (electrify fences). I only went around two lakes after Kamuiwakka onsen but saw a beautiful buck eating grass there.
Check the update on Kamuiwakka onsen as you may not able to go all the way up to the soaking holes/steam rising anymore due to rock slide risk anymore.

It was the best onsen I've ever experienced when I went there. Clothes optional and in the totally untouched nature wading up the warm river. There is a clothes change hut at the bus stop.
