Visiting Japan for longer than a month 2012/7/15 14:28
It's kind of hard to research what kind of travel opportunities there are that explicitly include a stay of roughly a month or longer. I was wondering if anybody here knew of any. From what I've heard you get a much fuller taste of a culture when you've stayed there for 3+ weeks. I like Zen, Playing Go(aka Igo), and would be willing to go for some sort of martial arts retreat (not that I'm any good). I'm a dude who's 21 going on 22. What might some of my options be?

Thanks for in advance for any ideas.

I'm not quite sure what your question is? You can travel around for up to 90 days at a time with the normal tourist visa. You can either cover lots of ground and see many different places or stay in one place for longer and get more familiar with it. Probably personal preference.

You could also consider volunteering for some organisations or participating in something like WWOOF:-

For Zen you could also consider staying at a temple and performing work there I guess.

Enjoy your trip!

The best way would be to list out the things you want to see and do while in Japan. This site is a wealth of tourist information. Just take a look at all the different regions of Japan and find the things that interest you. From there come up with a rough idea of a timeline. Then come back and post your rough itinerary and people on the forum can offer you advice on how to refine it.
