How many days do I need to visit Takayama

I will be travelling from Nagoya stopping in Takayama and the on to Kanazawa stopping on the way to Kanazawa in Shirakawa.
I was thinking one full day would be enough in Takayama what would you experienced travelers suggest and perhaps suggest what to see apart from the morning markets and Furukawa
This will happen in October or earlier.

Geographically, Shirakawago village is on the way from Takayama to Kanazawa. So you should travel from Nagoya - Takayama - Shirakawago to Kanazawa. One night at Takayama OR Shirakawago and another night at Kanazawa is enough. sights in Takayama http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5900.html
