Visit Tokyo and Osaka during New Year 2012/7/25 01:14
Is it really a bad idea to visit Tokyo and Osaka during new year? (from 30th Dec to 5th Jan)
As I heard most of the tourist attractions, shops, restaurants will be closed during New Year. What about department stores like Takashimaya and Isetan?
Help.....

I've been to Tokyo and Osaka during New Years a few times. Not all shops will be closed but big deparmental stores tend to close for a few days. There's still plenty of things to do during this season. I won't say it's a bad idea at all.

In recent years, big department stores in Tokyo tend to close for one day only (Jan. 1). Other, smaller shops, are more likely to be closed a few days longer.
