Hakodate to Otaru 2012/8/6 19:01
Hi

Can i check is there any way to go to otaru via Hakodate, i will be staying in Hakodate in feb 2013 & go otaru after that but find it troublesome to go back all the way to Sapporo & change train to Otaru.

It is a bit slower but you can transfer at Oshamambe to the JR Hakodate line and go through Kutchan/Niseko to Otaru.

More obvious on this map:-

Just add pass1 of "Kutchan" under search details on hyperdia.

Like I mentioned, use Hyperdia to search on your specific date/time:-
http://www.hyperdia.com/

From: Hakodate
To: Otaru
Pass1: Kutchan (Under "Search Details")

You can take the Limited Express (Usually "Super Hokuto") from Hakodate to Oshamambe.

Unfortunately Oshamambe is usually only local trains.

There is only one Limited Express ("Nupuri") from Oshamambe to Otaru per day during selected dates Aug 6-31 (Today it is at 14:07). Having said that, the Limited Express Nupuri only saves a couple of minutes and is double the price. So, I'd just get the local trains from Oshamambe to Otaru.
