Uji on 12/30 or 12/31 2012/8/7 08:14
Hello--I am wondering if most of the shops in Uji, Kyoto will be closed on either 12/30 or 12/31. We will be visiting Japan the last 2 weeks of December and spend a few days in Kyoto. The plan is to have a day trip to Uji on one of these days. My hubby and I would love to buy the famous tea there but if many shops will be closed, we'll have to skip it and visit during another visit. Does anyone know? Thanks!!

This question is difficult to answer.

If a small family-run real farmer's shop is in your mind, it will be closed.

If a souvenir shop for tourists and temple visitors is in your mind, it is sure to open(as many visit temples around Uji during the period).

You can also buy authentic "expensive but excellent" Uji tea at the basement of department stores in Kyoto(Isetan at Kyoto station etc.).
