Yes there is a bicycle rental in Kagoshima city.

This is operated by JR Kyushu, and the bicycle is power-assisted. If you like more sporty one, you might better check Tomihara near Kagoshima chuo station.

As usual, there are no English pages. If you would like to know in more detail, please do not hesitate to ask more.

By the way, now is not a good time for cycling in Kagoshima. It is very hot and humid, and sometimes it rains hard. And Kagoshima city is suffered from heavy ash falls these months. I hope things get better in autumn.

Thanks for your reply.
I will be going Japan next March.

I always take opportunity to ride a rental bicycle in various cities in Japan. If you have more information on other cities or town which has great ride. Please let me know. I have been to karuizawa, hakodate, takamatsu, furano etc. I know there is a great one between honshu and shikoku but that will be a big challenge.

I think most of the touristic places have rental bicycle shops. Though Japan is mountainous country, most of the cities are in the flat land, so it is easy to get around by bicycle. Did you noticed some "bicycle tours" are very popular in Tokyo?

There are many nice place for cycling. Otaru, Hirosaki, Morioka, Sendai, Yokohama, Matsumoto, Kanazawa, Kyoto (of course!), Nara, Asuka, Matsuyama, Kochi, Matsue (my favorite), Hagi, Yamaguchi, etc...

Enjoy your cycling in Japan!

PS: March in Kagoshima is very nice for cycling. In general, weather is fine after the cloudy winter/ In Tokyo, March is not good month as for the weather, but in Kagoshima, it is fine.

Thanks frog,

I don't usually stay much in Tokyo. I love the towns far from the cities.
