Suica and Passmo with credit card? 2012/8/19 01:54
hi everyone.

I am wondering whether can I buy 10,000 yen suica using credit card at the first time?

or can I buy passmo 10,000 yen with credit card (visa / master card)?

thank you for your answer :)

Some websites says VISA & Mastercard are accepted at Midori no Madoguchi(Green counter) at JR station and you can get Suica there.

but I'm getting confussed, some website said that I can buy SUICA for 2,000 yen and get 1,500 yen as a preloaded.

can I buy 10,000 yen so that it comes 9,500 as a preloaded?

thank you. :)

The 2,000 is the bare minimum to get started I think. The maximum is 20,000 yen.

I seem to recall trying to buy a Suica card with a credit card once, and being told it was cash only.

If you have a Suica card you don't need a Passmo, just use your Suica card where you would use a Passmo.

I'm sorry but, did you buy the SUICA card in Narita airport ? I plan to buy there in their office, and so I have heard that they accept credit card... :(

What is your itinerary?

Are you sure you are going to need that much on a Suica? In general a combination of one of the rail passes and the Suica works best.

If you land at Narita then the Suica + NEX deal will probably be a good option.

There is a note on the JR East website that says that only cash (JPY) can be used to recharge Suica

Obviously there are ATMs in the terminal so you should be able to withdraw cash from them, or alternatively exchange enough money so you have a reasonable amount of yen on you before you land. Depends a little what country you are from as to what is best.

Enjoy your trip!
