Last day TGS lines? 2012/8/21 01:48
I just happened to read from another member that TGS public days will be September 22nd and 23rd this year. I will be arriving in Narita (from USA) in the late afternoon on the 22nd and, because I will be alone, had been planning on staying one night in Narita, then going back to the airport the 23rd to buy all of my tickets and things when Ifm more awake and aware of whatfs going on. I planned on taking the NEX the 23rd and dropping my luggage off at my hotel in ochanomizu, kind of in between akiba and ochanomizu stations.

I am a fan of anime and JRPGs and have been to American anime conventions and was thinking it would be a really amazing experience if I could go to TGS, but Ifm afraid that if I arrive at opening time (10AM) or later, I would be waiting in line all day instead of being able to go in. I'm not a die-hard fan and don't need to try out games myself, so could show up later if I knew the lines would die down. I also expect I'll get tired early on in the day, maybe around 4PM. I tried doing google searches and couldnft find anything in particular about the last public day or suggestions on when is good to get there or how purchasing your tickets in advance affects your experience.

Does anyone know if the last public day is typically still very busy? And if I were to buy a ticket in advance online, would I be able to bypass the line, or would I still be waiting in a long line most of the day? Could I show up later, like sometime between 11AM and 1PM and get in more easily?

I could theoretically rearrange my itinerary to head in to Tokyo right after I arrive on the 22nd, but I still feel it would probably be better for me to do my ticket buying and such after a nightfs rest since Ifm alone. The last time I flew into Kansai and I had someone pick me up and help me exchange money and buy tickets. I remember being so extremely tired that I couldnft keep my eyes open and fell asleep on the train. I might be awake enough to send my bags to the hotel via takuhaibin from Narita so I wouldn't have to go to my hotel first...

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to get to TGS without feeling too rushed and without wasting too much time in line given my current itinerary?

Thanks in advance!!

Orenge and Yellow line via Nishi-funabashi for Akihabara(Akiba)/Shinjuku by JR Sobu line recommned.
both lines oparating a lot.

Thanks guys. Does anyone know if buying a ticket in advance will actually get me in any quicker than not having a ticket? I would assume so, but I can't find anything that actually says so.

Ifm afraid that if I arrive at opening time (10AM) or later, I would be waiting in line

The best scenario I think of is that you will apply for your rail tickets in the night of the 22nd and reach Makuhari Messe before 09:30 in the morning of the 23rd.

There are trains which run on Musashino Line and Keiyo Line's short section, some of which end in / start from Kaihimmakuhari Station.
You have chances to take a Sobu Line train from Ochanomizu / Akihabara then make a transfer in Nishi-Funabashi to such a Keiyo Line train.
[Timetable for weekends]
Ochanomizu: Track 3
( 07:21 / 07:56 / 08:11 )
| Sobu Line Local
Akihabara: Track 6
( 07:23 / 07:58 / 08:13 )
| Sobu Line Local
( 07:49 / 08:23 / 08:39 )
Nishi-Funabashi
( 08:03 / 08:35 / 08:50 )
| Keiyo Line Local
( 08:15 / 08:47 / 09:03 )
Kaihimmakuhari

Please note
that Keiyo Line trains starting from / ending in Tokyo do NOT run via Nishi-Funabashi
and that transfers in Tokyo Station to / from Keiyo Underground platforms are long both in time and distance.

If you do not apply for your rail tickets in the night, then you can do so in Tokyo Station from 05:30 at earliest; in that case it sounds better to make a long transfer to Keiyo Line then take a Rapid / Local train destined to Soga.

I still feel it would probably be better for me to do my ticket buying and such after a nightfs rest

If you are anxious about your rail tickets, I recommend you in advance make a perfect list of your Shinkansen / Ltd. Express / Express trains and a rough itinerary of when and where you will be, both in alphabets and digits, then print them out or write them down on a piece of paper.

For trains taken without a rail pass, maybe the staff of a JR ticket office in Tokyo / Ochanomizu / Akihabara Station will prepare your tickets while you will be away for a while, if you hand the piece of paper, identify yourself and promise that you will be back soon to purchase them by a certain time.
: In Tokyo Station, a JR ticket office located near Yaesu Central Gate in open from 05:30 to 23:00.

: In Ochanomizu Station, the only JR ticket office is located near Ochanomizu-bashi Exit and open from 08:00 to 20:00 on weekends. From your hotel, this exit is at the further end.
: In Akihabara Station, a JR ticket office located near Electric Town Ticket Gate is open from 08:00 to 20:00 on weekends. Presumably your hotel is closest to this gate.

For trains taken with a rail pass of JR, please get the rail pass first in Narita Airport / Airport Terminal 2 / Tokyo Station then apply for your tickets, handing the piece of paper.
: Ticket counters in Tokyo Station for rail pass applicants are located near Yaesu North Gate.

Trains departing from NRT do NOT run via Ochanomizu or Akihabara Station.
They arrive to one of Sobu Underground platforms in Tokyo Station.
On a rapid train on Chuo Line, Ochanomizu is the second stop after Tokyo, next to Kanda.
On a train on Yamanote loop Line's inner track, Akihabara is the second stop after Tokyo, next to Kanda.
