Kansai Thru Pass for guides 2012/10/12 07:05
I've read, that even Japanese people can purchase a Kansai Thru Pass, if they are guides of a foreigner, who is eligible to purchase a Kansai Thru Pass.

The question is: What is a "Guide"?
Only professional tourist guides or even any japanese friend who's willing to guide me around?

Thanks to anyone who can clarify this.

Have you read this page?
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2357_005.html

Maybe they refer to the Kansai Version or the Zenkoku Version?

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for your answer. Yes I have read that page.
It lists three types of passes:

- Kansai Thru Pass (For foreign visitors only)
- Zenkoku Version (For foreign visitors and residents of Japan)
- Kansai Version (For foreign visitors and residents of Japan)

I'm interested in the first type of pass.
There the site says:

"This version of the Surutto Kansai ticket is also available to 1) Japanese nationals with permanent residence outside of Japan and 2) residents of Japan who are travelling together with foreign visitors as guides."

I'm wondering what the "guide" is. Any friend who guides me around or a professional guide.

The page also refers to the official page at:
http://www.surutto.com/tickets/kansai_thru_english.html

Where I found the same information, but they don't mention multiple passes.

I assume that it will just refer to a Japanese person who is guiding you around (for example a friend) and not an official guide.

I think if it was restricted to offical guides then they would state something along the lines of "and guides who have a professional guide license as issued by Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport "

I think these are the two official associations:-

If you wish to confirm maybe ask your Japanese friend/guide to phone one of the Visitor Centers listed at the bottom of the Surutto page that you linked and ask them.

Thanks for your advices.
Yes, it may be a good idea to ask them directly.
