No, the Japan Rail Pass cannot be used on non-JR trains such as the green line displayed on the map on the second page linked.
But it can be used on all red lines (shinkansen) & the orange lines (other major JR lines), right? ^^

80% yes, but not 100%. Story is not that simple but not too complicated either.
how can we distinguish which train is covered by JR Pass & which one is not?

Umm, sorry for asking again
Does JR Pass holder still need to buy Suica, Pasmo or Icoca?
PS: sorry for keep asking. I kinda confuse with these trains & subways. There are none in my country, so it's very seldom for me to ride them.

In Hokkaido, No. PASMO and ICOCA is not usable. Suica can be used for JR, but not for subway, bus and street car (tram) .

Then, what is Suica for? I've read the Suica/Pasmo page in this forum, but still couldn't completely understand what the use of it for the tourist who have JR Pass.
