How to get from Hakone to Kamakura? 2012/10/15 14:19
Hi! My husband and I will be spending a night in Hakone and will be getting the Hakone 2 days pass on the RomanceTrain for our side trip in our 9 days in Japan. Was wondering whether the return train to Shinjuku the next morning, we can get off at Kamakura for a day trip. This is to save another train ride out from Tokyo again. Not sure whether we can alight at Kamakura and continue the ride back to Shinjuku again using the Pass again. If that is not posssible, what is the best possible way for us to get to Kamakura enroute to Shinjuku?? Thank you. by Katherine.

Kamakura is not located along the Odakyu Line. So, you can't use the round trip version of the Hakone Free Pass to get from Hakone to Kamakura.

But if you travel instead via the JR Tokaido Line from Odawara to Tokyo, Kamakura is located more or less along the way. Transfer to the Yokosuka Line at Ofuna Station, which gets you to Kamakura in just about five minutes.

You could still use the Hakone Free Pass without round trip and pay for the Romance Car train separately.

Which part are you referring to?

Odawara Station to Kamakura is covered by the JR Pass using the JR Lines.

Shinjuku to Odawara Station is covered using the JR Lines (usually via Shinkansen from Shinagawa Station). The Romance Car train and the Odakyu lines from Shinjuku to Odawara are not covered by the JR Pass.

Transport within Hakone is not covered by the JR Pass. In general people buy the Hakone Free Pass (at Odawara Station if you have a JR Pass).
