Himeji Castle under construction 2012/10/25 09:33
We would like to make a side trip out of Kyoto to visit Himeji Castle on 27/12/12 I noticed that it is partially under construction. Can I please check how big is it affected? Or it is not worth visiting it as most of it is covered up with scaffoldings. How is the experience going to be like with all this construction going on?

Thanks.

It is explained and illustrated here:

I recommend to visit another castle unless you are a big castle fans who would appreciate seeing a castle under renovation.

there's still a fair bit to see inside the castle though it is very disheartening when you get off the train and see it under construction.

It is worth going in my oppinion, the garden behind the castle is the best in Japan.

If you are in Kyoto, go to Hikone Castle instead. It's only 30 minutes away, and is one of the 4 National Treasure castles (there are only 12 originals still remaining, including the 4 National Treasure castles )
