is it convenient to go Daisetsuzan National Park?
I would not call access to Sounkyo or Asahidake Onsen convenient, but it is not too inconvenient, either. In particular, some ryokan in Sounkyo offer free shuttle buses from Asahikawa (and in some cases I think even Sapporo), which would be quite convenient.
also will the ropeway be open for us to trek?
Asahidake Ropeway is out of service from November 11 to December 10. Sounkyo Ropeway operates every day. The ski season opens on November 9.
The higher elevations of Daisetsuzan National Park are covered under deep snow already. As mentioned above, skiing is possible on Kurodake above Sounkyo. In the lower elevations it can also snow at any time if it has not already.

hi Uji
this is the first time we are going to Hokkaido. we will reach end of Nov 2012 and will be there for 7 days.
we plan to cover Sapporo, Hakodate, Otaru and Niseko, and hopefully Asahikawa.
do you think the itinerary is too ambitious? we plan to make Sapporo and Hakodate our loding place. is it convenient to travel to the above places from Sapporo?
finally at asahikawa, besides the Daisetsuzan National Park, what other attractions do you reccommend?
thanks

If it is just five full days, then it will result in a moderately fast travel pace. we plan to make Sapporo and Hakodate our loding place. is it convenient to travel to the above places from Sapporo?Niseko and Asahikawa are too far from Sapporo in order for me to consider them convenient side trips. They are possible as side trips if you do not mind long train/bus rides, but I personally would rather do them with overnight stays. Otaru, however, is an easy side trip. finally at asahikawa, besides the Daisetsuzan National Park, what other attractions do you reccommend?Noboribetsu with an overnight stay in an onsen ryokan: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6750.html
