Rapi:t - Limited Express 2012/11/10 02:14
I plan to take the Limited Express Rapi:t from Kansai Airport to Namba.

From the webpage below, it stated we have to purchase the passenger ticket in addition to a limited-express ticket when riding. Dont quite understand what it mean.

Where and how to purchase the passenger ticket and the limited-express ticket? Do we purchase both at the same counter or separate counters? How much does it cost for passenger ticket and limited pass ticket?

Are all seats reserved when we buy the tickets?

From the webpage below, it stated we have to purchase the passenger ticket in addition to a limited-express ticket when riding. Dont quite understand what it mean.

The limited-express ticket is a supplement needed for riding the faster limited express trains. It includes a seat reservation, which is mandatory for the limited express. What they call "passenger ticket" is simply the base fare needed to get from the airport to Namba. If you were to take an express train instead of the limited express, you would need only the "passenger ticket".

Where and how to purchase the passenger ticket and the limited-express ticket?

At the Nankai ticket counter at the airport's railway station.

Do we purchase both at the same counter or separate counters?

Same counter. Alternatively, I would expect that purchase of both is also possible at ticket machines, but I am not sure whether they are easy to use for foreign travelers like you.

How much does it cost for passenger ticket and limited pass ticket?

The passenger ticket is 890 yen. The limited-express supplement costs 500 yen for a regular seat or 700 yen for a "super seat".

Are all seats reserved when we buy the tickets?

Yes, on the limited express, all seats are reserved. In contrast, seat reservations are impossible on slower express trains.

The answer exactly depends on which area in Kyoto you are heading for.

JR, Hankyu and Keihan connect Osaka with Kyoto.

Hankyu and Keihan also operate the fastest category of "LTD Exp" train. But you don't need LTD Exp ticket to ride on them(so base fare only).

JR operates LTD Exp train from Osaka. But most locals take a little bit slower Rapid Express train from Osaka to Kyoto.

There's more than one Namba station, but as you refer to arriving by the Rapi:t service, you are probably referring to the Nankai Namba station. You cannot get to JR Kyoto station from there. You will need to take the subway from the Namba subway station that is located just north of Namba Nankai. Take the Midosuji Line to JR Shin Osaka station (\230) and then the JR Special Rapid Service to JR Kyoto station(\540).
