Renewing My Japanese Driving Lisence

When I left Japan in 2004, I had a valid Japanese driving license with 6 months to expire. Now (2012)I hope to find a job in Japan legally. Once I go there,is it possible to renew my license in Japan without applying the same from scratch?

Once you let it expire, you must start from scratch. Since it's well over three years after it has expired, there will be no exemption given when you take the exam, I'm sorry to say...
