cheap hotel tokyo/kyoto 2012/12/4 10:46
Hi!
I plan on being in tokyo by march 28th for at least a week and then spend 2-3 night in kyoto.
I am going with my wife and we wish to pay for around 80$ (CAD) /night (6500-7000 yen).
I am not difficult and it could be a youth hostel, as long as we have our private room.
Do you guys know any trusted places to try and book?

thanks alot!

You can try Toyoko Inn.

That is peak time in Kyoto due to the cherry blossoms so start looking and booking now.

I think you will struggle to get a hotel in Kyoto for that sort of money. Try private rooms in places like:-

http://kyoto.j-hoppers.com/
http://www.gojo-guest-house.com/gojo-guest-house/gojo-e.html

Or alternatively, you can stay in Osaka and day trip in if you really want a hotel.

Also, you don't really mention exact dates for Kyoto but you will have better availability if you don't try and book the Friday and Saturday nights.

hii fab..
This could be one of the hotel u can look up. www.palacesidehotel.com
Its exactly next to the imperial palace as it can be one of your tour destination. You can see this hotel location from google map. This hotel also provide a concourse where u can do your cooking. Me as a budget traveller cooks my own meals. Staff is great internet in lobby is free and subway is nearby. Theres lot more to tell from my previous experience but i dunno whats your travel plan.

I will be in kyoto again in this coming april.
Good luck have fun .

I've stayed in a private room at Gojo Guesthouse in Kyoto and would absolutely recommend it. Room photo - http://flic.kr/p/btJD2r

As for Tokyo, we spent quite a few nights at this one - http://www.toukaisou.com/index.html
It's very budget, but for a double room with ensuite for a maximum of 7000 yen per night, we found it to be perfectly suitable as a place to sleep, shower and get a free wi-fi fix. Here's the Trip Advisor link http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g1066461-d648275-r114817... - my review is as Saldesalsal, 3 stars given.

Hi fab,

I will be in Japan on roughly the same dates. I didn't book a hotel in Kyoto, but in Osaka (right next to the Shin Osaka station because of the high prices in Kyoto. It is only a 20 minute train ride.

Did the same for Tokyo. A bit on the outskirts of the town (in Shinagawa), but right next to a station, so that the main station in Tokyo is just 15 minutes away and the next shinkansen stop is just 3 minutes.

Seems nice, as long as you don't mind a shared bathroom for a week. If it were me, I'd opt for the twin room so I could have a futon instead. It's nice to gain extra floor space when it's folded up, plus Western style beds are sometimes quite uncomfortable.

For an affordable accommodation in Osaka, this has been suggested here previously http://www.chuogroup.jp/en/.

It's up to your standards of course, but you can take a look at:

http://www.toyoko-inn.com/eng/
http://www.superhoteljapan.com/en/

And if you have never stayed in one before, I recommend you spend at least a night in a Japanese Inn or ryokan. There are some inexpensive ones in Tokyo, like the Kimi, the Tama, the Taito and the Tokyo Ryokan. See:
