Kumamoto to Akamizu (Aso Farm Land) 2012/12/9 14:19
Checking Hyperdia to get from Kumamoto to Akamizu. The trains available are on the JR Hohi line. However, between Kumamoto and Akamizu is a stop at Higoozu. Do we stay on the train? Do we get off and take a different train from Higoozu to Akamizu? Sorry just confused because if we do have to get off the train, Hyperdia is only giving us 3 minutes to hop on the connecting train. TIA!

Look closely at the Hyperdia page.

If it says Transfer: 0 Times, you do not need to transfer.

If it says Transfer: 1 Times, you must transfer once. In that case, you will find an orange icon with Tra. (meaning transfer) just left of "HIGOOZU", the transfer station. Higoozu is a small station and the connecting train should be just across the platform so you do not need to worry about the 3 minutes transfer.

Have a nice trip!

From Akamizu you need to take a taxi to go to Aso Farmland. If you go to Tateno which is one train stop before Akamizu there is a 17 min 150 yen bus going to Aso Farmland.

There is also a bus from Kumamoto to Beppu with an en-route stop in Aso Farmland. Travelling time from Kumamoto station to Aso Farmland is 1 hr 34 min.
