Are Zao Snow monsters all ready in place? Do the worth half day visit on 29/12?

The best time to see the snow monsters is typically in February, but you can see some of them now (not at their biggest). Incidentally, the night illuminations this year start on 12/29, so yes, I think it is worth a visit.

check the weather before you visit. My wife and I went there during early Jan, was snowing heavily and visibility was limited to few meters. The snow monsters were ready, but we just couldn't see it. Quite a pity because we braved the snow to walk from the bus terminal to the cable car station.
