Hyotan Onsen - Which Station? 2013/1/21 15:51
According to Hyotan Onsen's website, directions prompt us to get off at Beppu Station. However, looking at the map, Beppudaigaku Station looks closer. Confused....which station should we get off at? Not sure if one is preferred over the other because of available bus/taxis - help!

Indeed, Beppu-Daigaku Station is closer than Beppu:

But limited express trains only stop at Beppu Station, and there are direct buses from Beppu Station:

Thanks Uji! Another question, if I have the JR Kyushu pass, would it be more convenient to jump on the JR train at Beppu to Beppudaigaku and then take a taxi to Hyotan? I'm fine paying a little more for a taxi. Not sure if the route you mentioned above from Beppu rather Beppudaigaku is easier because roads/detours. TIA!

I would take the bus from Beppu Station. But if you are confused by the bus network, then a taxi from Beppu Station would probably cost around 1500 yen (I am guessing very roughly).

Or you could take a train to Beppudaigaku. There are about two connections per hour. And catch a taxi from there. I guess the fare would be around 800 yen.
