14 days itinerary help 2013/1/22 13:52
Hi, i will be going to Japan for a 13/14 day trip to Japan at the end of March for the Sakura season.I would like some suggestions on accommodation and transport options. Should i get the 14 day JR pass or 7 day JR pass for those days that i'm travelling interstate and buy tickets for the other days? Any other options?

Day 1: Arrive @ Narita Airport
I will arrive @ 20.45, i would like to purchase the SUICA & NEX package, but i read that the place that sells the ticket close at 21.45, so not sure if i will make it? If not What's my best option to get to the city central? I was thinking of staying around Shinjuku?
Day 2: Tokyo
Tsukiji Market
Imperial Palace
Shibuya

Day 3: Tokyo
Tokyo International Anime Fair

Day 3: Tokyo
Sensoji Temple
Harajuku
Shinjuku

Day 4: Tokyo
Disneyland

Day 5: Tokyo
Ghigli Museum
Akihabara

Day 6: Travel to Katsatsu Onsen
Stay a night at a Ryukan

Day 7: Travel to Kyoto
Philosophers path
Keage incline
Yasaka Shrine
Kiyomizudera temple
Gion

Where should i stay in Kyoto?

Day 8: Kyoto
Kinkakuji
Ryoanji
Arashyama

Day 9: Day trip to Hiroshima/Mijiyima
I'm going to Nara on day 13 already, should i still go Hiroshima or are they fairly similar?? What other place would be nice as a day trip from kyoto?

Day 10: Osaka
Umeda area

Day 11: Day trip to Nara
Todaiji temple
Nara Park

Day 12:Osaka
Namba Area

Day 13:
Head to Kansai airport
Best way to get the the airport for a noon flight out??

Also, i would love to see a baseball game and a sumo competition? Any ideas where i could see one and how i can get tickets?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help!!

Hi, i will be going to Japan for a 13/14 day trip to Japan at the end of March for the Sakura season.

What exact date do you arrive in Japan?

Should i get the 14 day JR pass

No.

or 7 day JR pass for those days that i'm travelling interstate

Only if you visit Hiroshima/Miyajima.

and buy tickets for the other days?

Yes.

Any other options?

Depends on how you wish to travel. You can take overnight buses or you can fly for some of the legs.

i would like to purchase the SUICA & NEX package, but i read that the place that sells the ticket close at 21.45,

Correct.

so not sure if i will make it?

You probably will make it if your flight is not delayed.

If not What's my best option to get to the city central? I was thinking of staying around Shinjuku?

Narita access options

Train fares/timetables:-

Some of the limousine buses run a bit later than 21:45 depending on where you stay in Shinjuku

Day 2: Tokyo
Tsukiji Market
Imperial Palace
Shibuya

What date? Do you plan on going to the Tuna Auction?

Day 3: Tokyo
Tokyo International Anime Fair

Queue early!

Day 3: Tokyo
Sensoji Temple
Harajuku
Shinjuku

Seems ok although I would try and make this a Sunday and include Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine (at Harajuku).

Day 4: Tokyo
Disneyland

Try and make this a weekday

Day 5: Tokyo
Ghigli Museum

Note you must pre-purchase ticktes, try and do this on a weekday

Day 6: Travel to Katsatsu Onsen
Stay a night at a Ryukan

Kusatsu and Ryokan.

Probably make this Day 1 of a 7-day JR Pass.

Day 7: Travel to Kyoto
Philosophers path

Seems fine. Include Pontocho in the evening after/during Gion.

Where should i stay in Kyoto?

If you haven't booked already then probably wherever you can find. Kyoto will book out assuming this is early April so finalise your itinerary soon and make your bookings soon. If you can't find anything in your budget in Kyoto you can base yourself in Osaka and daytrip to Kyoto easily.

Day 8: Kyoto
Kinkakuji
Ryoanji
Arashyama

Looks good.

Day 9: Day trip to Hiroshima/Mijiyima
I'm going to Nara on day 13 already, should i still go Hiroshima or are they fairly similar??

They are not similar at all.

What other place would be nice as a day trip from kyoto?

Hikone Castle makes a nice half-day trip.

Koyasan and a temple stay make a nice overnight trip

Day 10: Osaka
Day 11: Day trip to Nara
Day 12:Osaka

Seems fine.

Day 13:
Head to Kansai airport
Best way to get the the airport for a noon flight out??

Nankai Trains from Namba:-

Also, i would love to see a baseball game and a sumo competition?

Sumo tournament is in Osaka from March 10-24. So you probably miss it, unfortunately.

Any ideas where i could see one and how i can get tickets?
