JR Yahata station to Kawachi Fuji Garden 2013/2/3 07:54
Hello. This is my first post, so I hope it turns out okay. I believe that the closest JR station to the Kawachi Fuji garden in Kitakyushu is JR Yahata station. Is the garden far from there? Can I take a taxi or would that be very expensive? Would there even be taxis at JR Yahata station? Thank you.

Its about 10km, which should cost a little under 3000 yen each way by taxi.

Thank you - that's quite reasonable. But, if I took a taxi there, would I be able to get one back again? I am guessing that it's a popular spot during wisteria viewing, but would it be likely that taxis would be waiting there?

We read that there is a bus going to the garden from JR Yahata station. Take a look at the following thread in another forum for some more discussion on the garden.

Yes, I have seen the discussion on TA and thought that I would follow those directions. But just recently, on this forum, it was said that the bus was discontinued and that you would have to hire a car or catch a taxi. It doesn't seem sensible to hire a car just for this visit, so that's why I was asking about taxis.

I'm sure it will all work out fine on the day, one way or another.

You might already know but the bus which is mentioned at the TripAdvisor page seems to be free. The timetable is at the bottom of this page, and you can catch these buses from Yahata Station.

No, I didn't know that - thank you! This seems to suggest that the bus is still running after all. I'll print out all the maps and timetables, but I'll also wait until I'm at my hotel in Hiroshima, and maybe ask them (or tourist information) to help with the visit. I'm also starting to learn Japanese (first lesson in 3 days!) so that will surely help a tiny little bit as well. :)

So this bus "Nishitetsu #56" stops at elementary school, and you have to walk about 1km to the west along the creek as I see it on the map. Ajisai-no-Yu is in between school and the garden.

Good luck with your studying!

I have also been seriously looking into getting here! See you in mid-April there? :D

I went there yesterday and it seems that the Onsen shuttle is the only way to get there now (unless you go by taxi). But, on the bright side - it's only a 2 minute walk from the Ajisei no yu Onsen to the Garden! Here's a photo I took of the updated Onsen shuttle schedule: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/191/img1779hv.jpg/
