I get my hair straightend and would prefer not to have my hair braided. Are there any places that can do a good pressing?

Room806/Sakura 2009/7/11 00:56
If you are in Kanto I highly recommend sakura in Yokosuka its run by the same people as room806. I just went there a few weeks ago. The stylist did a great job. I got a relaxer and she trimmed my ends too. All together a paid close to the same as I would back home(US) so the pricing wasn't so bad. But yeah the service was great and the results were amazing they speak English so there are no worries about language issues either. Here is the website. I'm sure its been posted before but surely it can't hurt to post it again.

They have relaxersin Japan 2010/5/26 17:35
Just used the Plia relaxer I bought at Sally beauty store in Gotanda, and no more friz or curl. When my hair are wait they do not turn in an afro they are just wavy. It is the same relaxer that for african hair but texture is like a thick conditionner. They have loads of relaxers. I used hard cause on website it is written it is for frizzy hair. Now I am kind of scared to go bald cause I thought it is japanese product my hair will not change that much , well I was wrong.

I bought this

http://www.lebel.co.jp/en/products/perm/pliarelaxer/

- first shampoo
- then number one on hair for 5 to 25 minutes
-then rinse like crazy, dry with towel
-then blow dry (ith afro took me forever , after that 5 minutes)
-Then iron with iron up to 140 degree.
-then apply number 2, live 5 to 8 minutes
- then rinse like crazy.
- I used rollers to dry my hair and will use roller for a while cause this is no soft product.

Sally stores are in shinjuku too I think, non professional can buy (these are for japanese professionnal.. japanese people do use relaxers)

moving to shiga 2010/7/1 03:30
Hi I'm moving to shiga in a month and I was wondering if anyone knows of any hair braiding in the area. I'm a little worried as to what I'll do with my hair. Help!!! Thank you:)

hair 2010/7/1 04:05
Where you going, Oumi-hachiman? I stayed in Shiga, but my hair is dreadlocks, and I did my own hair.

I haven't a clue where you could go. I'm sure folks there get braids too, but probably only used Asian hair. But you could try any shop maybe, and tell them to play with your hair. lol..

Also, Osaka isn't far away, it's like 45 minutes or something by train, and I'm sure you'll find a lot of places you could go.

Im not sure where, but more blacks and africans dwell there. Or you could ask a random black person on the street if they do hair, or know someone who does. lol

ONLY use Room 806 as a last resort... 2010/7/3 00:39
So, im studying abroad in Tokyo right now and my hair was a hot mess from the humidity. i was going to get a relaxer but i would have just sweated it out. i was super excited when i heard abt room 806, a solon that could do my "Type" of hair. i made an appointment after about 10 times of playing phone tag. room 806 is LITERALLY a room in like this hotel/mall/apartment complex thing(im used to spa/ salons). so i thought whatever might as well go through with it since my hair is a mess and i already traveled 40 mins to Roppongi. my "stylist" was unwelcoming, didnt say two words to me and had this sour look on her face the whole time. she basically RIPPED my hair out with the SMALL comb ( i have pics to prove it) and when she braided she didnt prep my hair or scalp, or the extentions, and i was given the cheap synthetic kind. not the gorgeous silky human hair im used to she ran out of hair before she finished the back of my head... :( and then she pulled so tight you can see it comming out of my head! so then amidst the ripping of hair and her going super fast and super sloppy she runs of of hair in mid braid and has to idk start another braid on top of a braid, which looks completely tacky!(btw im getting corn rows) and she tries to do a design but one half is just slanted and the other half goes straight back... (fail) then when she finishes she dipps the hair in "oil" and slapps it on her arm like a crazy person and then cuts it with kitchen siccors to make it "even" which it isnt btw. then she gives my hair one last yank and darts out the door without saying anything. not to mention she was on her phone the whole time, yelling in french! the only reason i put up with that is beacause my options are slim to none, when it come to hair. But in America that ish wouldnt fly!i would have reported her made her do it again, tell her off and not paid her! i suggest you have your hair done b4 you come to tokyo or bring you supplies with you. and used room 806 as a last resort..

Is there a website? 2010/7/13 02:46
I was reading through this forum and I was wondering if there was a website for 4/U? Also, do Japanese tend to do black hair well? Also, do you think they will damage my hair if I ask them to do a perm?
by Levene LeBlanc (guest) rate this post as useful

perms 2010/7/13 23:24
I have a black friend who lived here for 5 years, and she gets the Japanese straight perms.

She says her hair is healthy, and indeed, it didn't break off anymore and grew a LOT.

So maybe you can go to the places that she goes. She's picky, so I know it's not some rundown shop, or a place where people don't know what they are doing.

I'm not sure where that is though, so I'll try to get in contact with her and post the location here asap. :)

Myriam12, not sure what this is but there's a location in Osaka and kobe... so maybe you can go, and the people will put you in contact with friends, or themselves.

Leblanc, 4/U is the sister Salon to Room 806
http://www.room806.com/

But I hear good reviews for 4/U.

Start buying the Japanese hip-hop magazines, and they always have ads for hair salons....

Important Question Braiding 2010/7/26 03:47
Ok I am transitioning from perm hair to natural hair. I basically wanted keep my hair in Kinky Twist or Box Braids for most of the time while I'm in Japan for a year. Of course Im going to give my hair plenty of time to breath before I put more braids in, But would this be idea to keep my hair healthy, thick and retain length?
by mousee09 (guest) rate this post as useful

. 2010/7/26 04:06
Are you on Nappturality.com?
It's a great website and forum with tons of tips on natural hair and transitioning, styling, length retention, etc.

It was my bible when I transitioned from perm to afro. Eventually I stated dreadlocks.

So anyway, I sorta rocked an afro after I cut off my relaxed ends. I didnt need to do anything special. Keeping it moisturized. Twists and braids should be plenty. No cornrows, cuz that breaks off the hair.

Curly Hair Cut (DEVA CUT) 2010/11/1 09:29
I recently went to a salon in Ebisu and the stylist is and artist. Her name is Kiyoko and she has studied at the Devachan salon. I found her salon to be a wonderful experience and my hair came out amazing. I would suggest anyone that wants to take care of their natural curls and watch their hair grow healthy to try this salon.

CHINA! 2010/11/27 20:59
I've been here for 3 years and I've tried just about everyone- Miss Jane, Sonia etc and without a doubt China at Hayato is the best. She can do just about everything, however the prices are a little bit high.
