What is a japan-guide.com membership?

Everybody who wants to actively participate in the japan-guide.com forum, must be a registered member. The purpose of the membership system is 1) to enhance user friendliness of our website, 2) to reduce the number of invalid ads and 3) to prevent abuse. There is an enforced limit of one membership per person. Every member will be able to access the member area with a registered e-mail address and a password. The membership is free of charge.

How can I sign up?

Click here to sign up for a membership. After submitting the signup form, a confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to activate your membership account, will be sent to your e-mail address.

Is the membership free or does it cost something?

A membership is free of charge.

I do not receive a confirmation e-mail after signing up.

There are many possible causes. The most likely reasons are:

You entered your e-mail address with a typing mistake.

The confirmation e-mail message was mistakenly classified as junk mail by your mail software or service, and was redirected into the trash or spam folder. (Note that according to a recent study, up to 20 percent of wanted e-mails are wrongly classified as junk mail by hotmail and similar mail services.)

Your e-mail account/mailbox is full and does not accept any new e-mails.

Check your spam or trash folder, whether the e-mail was wrongly classified as junk mail. If you can't find it there, try to sign up again with the same e-mail address. If it works, your earlier attempt failed because of a wrongly entered address. Otherwise, click here to request another confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to activate your membership. If this fails again, try registering a different e-mail address of a different e-mail service.

How to activate my membership?

How to change my password

How to change my e-mail address?

It is currently impossible to change the e-mail address associated with a membership account. Instead, please stop using your old membership and sign up for a new membership with your new e-mail address.

How to send an inquiry/message in response to an ad?

At the bottom of each ad there is a link to a contact form through which you can send a message to the author of the ad. In order to access the contact form, you need to be a registered member.

After creating an ad, how do I get contacted?

People, who are interested in your ad, can send you a message via a contact form (they will not see your e-mail address). Messages will be sent to your e-mail address with the other user's e-mail address as sender.

Is it free to create an ad?

Ads, which advertise a paid or commercial service, a website, a business or its product(s) will be associated with a fee:
$10 or 1000 Yen for a 1-month listing
$20 or 2000 Yen for a 3-month listing
$30 or 3000 Yen for a 6-month listing
$50 or 5000 Yen for a 12-month listing
All other ads are free of charge. Payments are possible via Paypal, a secure online payment system. Click here to make a payment.

How to delete an ad?

Ads can be deleted in the member area. Click here to access the member area.

How to modify an ad?

In case of paid ads, please contact us with a modification request. In case of free ads, delete your ad and create a new one in the member area.

Abuse

Due to the anonymity on the internet, participation at this online forum is connected with a potential danger of abuse. The following are common types of abuse:

In case of personals:

Sexual: There are people who abuse our forum to find sex partners without showing their true intentions. In the worst case, such people deceive a person into believing that they are their only girl/boyfriend, but in reality they have several partners concurrently.

Annoyance: There are people who send obscene, racist or or other types of inappropriate e-mails to users of our forum, for example, in order to revenge themselves for a refusal. In the worst case, threats or blackmailing can occur.

In case of commercial ads:

Non-delivery or non-payment: There is the risk that a user refuses to make a payment for a service or product received via this forum or the other way around.
False or misleading ad content: The content of an ad might not correspond to reality. For example, an accommodation claimed to be close to the city center might be more than an hour outside of the city, or a person advertising a language tutoring service might not be in full control of the language he/she is advertising to tutor.

Other types of abuse:

Financial: There are people who abuse our forum to attempt financial fraud by deceiving users into trusting them or by trying to get users' bank account information or similar confidential information with various tactics.
Spam: There are people who use improper ways of advertising their commercial products or services, such as sending inquiries to users listed in non-commercial categories or sending identical inquires to multiple users regardless of whether their inquiry is relevant to the user's ad or not.

If you receive an inappropriate message or are involved in an abuse case (serious or not), please report it to us.

In order to prevent abuse we strongly recommend you the following:

Do not use our forum to find a dating partner, boy/girlfriend or marriage partner.
Do not carelessly give away personal information such as your mailing address, phone number, your school or company name.
Do not meet people, whom you met on this forum, until you really know them very well.
