Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 15
| |
Komusubi Kazutoyama finished in style with a perfect score to take the yusho 12-3. He will be well placed for an ozeki run in July. | | Tochinojo and Akoushousan both won their final-day bouts to finish in an 11-4 tie in Juryo. Tochinofuji takes the yusho by virtue of his higher score, the highest in the division, so it was a well-deserved victory. | | | In Makushita Katoomaru lost but so did his only real challenger, Volya, and so Katoomaru wins the yusho on a tie. | | Congratulations to all the winners. See you back here in July!

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 14
| |
Komusubi Kazutoyama won again while all the chasers lost so it's an early yusho for him. It's his first Makuuchi yusho! Congratulations! | | In Juryo it's Akoushousan, Tochinojo and Yuko. The latter two fight each other tomorrow so Akoushousan has to win to stand a chance. He'll be rooting for Yuko as then he would win a tie. | | Katoomaru won again and leads Makushita by one win. He just needs one more win to take the yusho, if he loses, the only challenger with a realistic chance of overturning him is Volya, whose scoring is also good. | | Good luck to all the contenders!

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 13
| |
Leader Kazutoyama lost but retains sole lead from five Maegashira hopefuls. He'll need to concentrate to close the yusho. | | The Juryo leader Takashogunther also slipped and allow Akoushousan, Tochinojo and Yuko back into the mix. In Makushita Katoomaru returned to winning ways and shook off Buyosei, who is now part of a chasing group of five.

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 12
| |
Kazutoyama won again and is now two wins clear of the pack...and a giant pack it is - 12 players have 8 wins. | | Takashogunther takes the sole lead in Juryo with nine wins. And Katoomaru's proud unbeaten run in Makushita finally came to an end. He now leads with Buyosei.

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 11
| |
Kazutoyama came through on yet another chaotic day to take the sole lead with nine wins. Sekiwake Sumio and Komusubi Barusho are part of a chasing group of seven. | | It's still Akoushousan, Takashogunther and Yuko leading Juryo with 8-3 records. Katoomaru marches imperiously on to eleven straight wins in Makushita, with only Buyosei now within striking distance.

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 10
| |
Sekiwake Sumio fell victim to Yokozuna Kakushoyamaii (and Shodai) to fall to 8-2. He is now part of a leading group of three with Komusubi Kazutoyama and former Ozeki Yamashiro. | | Juryo is a free-for-all, with five players leading with 7-3 records. In Makushita Katoomaru wins again to go 10-0.

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 9
| |
Sekiwake Sumio is no longer zensho but he keeps up the fine work to stay in the sole lead. It's a day-nine kachikoshi for him. Five players are in pursuit, including Komusubi Kazutoyama. | | Akoushousan and Takashogunther lead Juryo with seven wins. And in Makushita we find our only remaining unbeaten player, Katoomaru.

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 6
| |
I was only kidding on day two when I said Sekiwake Sumio needed 15 wins to reach Ozeki but he seems to be having a pop at it anyway. If anyone can do it, he can! | | This is as good a time as any to introduce Sumio to the newer gamers. He joined the game in Haru 2001 and tops most of the stats rankings, not only due to longevity but also due to formidable gaming skill and consistency. He is definitely one of the greatest ever players of this game (and personally the player I fear facing the most by a mile). | | He has actually reached the Ozeki rank twice before: a short-lived two-basho stint in 2003 and then a two-year run between 2008 and 2010. Incredibly, he has only spent one tournament outside the top division - his first ever tournament - when he won the Juryo yusho on his debut. | | No player has ever achieved a zensho yusho in the Makuuchi division but I'll keep my fingers crossed for him anyway. If probability prevails, hopefully he'll build up a nice bank of wins to make an easier run at the second top rank. A player this consistent and talented really should be in the very elite ranks. | | Returning to this tournament. Sumio is the sole leader. A group of three is in pursuit, including Komusubi Kazutoyama. | | Veterans Frinkanohana, Yuko and Terarno lead Juryo with five wins. Katoomaru is the only undefeated player left in Makushita. | | Sumio fights another legendary veteran in the form of Norizo tomorrow. Let's see how it goes!

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 2
| |
Welcome to the Natsu Basho, where we are suffering a severe lack of top-ranked wrestlers. | | Looking at the banzuke, there are VERY slight Ozeki promotion prospects for Sekiwake Oskanohana and Sekiwake Sumio but they need 12 and 15 (!!) wins respectively. Komusubi Kotosho is making his sanyaku debut but it's been rough so far and he is 0-2 but there is plenty of time to recover. | | Yokozuna Yumezukuri, Sekiwake Sumio and Komusubi Barusho are all off to perfect starts in a large leading group. The lower divisions are as usual still forming their races. | | Good luck to all the players.
