Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 6
| |
I was only kidding on day two when I said Sekiwake Sumio needed 15 wins to reach Ozeki but he seems to be having a pop at it anyway. If anyone can do it, he can! | | This is as good a time as any to introduce Sumio to the newer gamers. He joined the game in Haru 2001 and tops most of the stats rankings, not only due to longevity but also due to formidable gaming skill and consistency. He is definitely one of the greatest ever players of this game (and personally the player I fear facing the most by a mile). | | He has actually reached the Ozeki rank twice before: a short-lived two-basho stint in 2003 and then a two-year run between 2008 and 2010. Incredibly, he has only spent one tournament outside the top division - his first ever tournament - when he won the Juryo yusho on his debut. | | No player has ever achieved a zensho yusho in the Makuuchi division but I'll keep my fingers crossed for him anyway. If probability prevails, hopefully he'll build up a nice bank of wins to make an easier run at the second top rank. A player this consistent and talented really should be in the very elite ranks. | | Returning to this tournament. Sumio is the sole leader. A group of three is in pursuit, including Komusubi Kazutoyama. | | Veterans Frinkanohana, Yuko and Terarno lead Juryo with five wins. Katoomaru is the only undefeated player left in Makushita. | | Sumio fights another legendary veteran in the form of Norizo tomorrow. Let's see how it goes!

Natsu Basho 2026 - Day 2
| |
Welcome to the Natsu Basho, where we are suffering a severe lack of top-ranked wrestlers. | | Looking at the banzuke, there are VERY slight Ozeki promotion prospects for Sekiwake Oskanohana and Sekiwake Sumio but they need 12 and 15 (!!) wins respectively. Komusubi Kotosho is making his sanyaku debut but it's been rough so far and he is 0-2 but there is plenty of time to recover. | | Yokozuna Yumezukuri, Sekiwake Sumio and Komusubi Barusho are all off to perfect starts in a large leading group. The lower divisions are as usual still forming their races. | | Good luck to all the players.

Haru Basho 2026 - Day 15
| |
Yesterday was the sixth lowest-scoring day of all time and today wasn't all that far from that - it was the 16th worst. A crazy weekend at the end of a totally unpredictable tournament. | | Kaito suffered an agonizing loss after needing just one of the final four bouts to go his way and that somehow not happening. Andrasoyama came through a 3-3 draw on another crazy day to secure his fourth Makuuchi yusho. Kaito's wait for glory continues but he gets his first jun yusho today along with Kotosho. | | Rikioi won the Juryo death match and finished 12-3, one ahead of Chindonya and Sagi. All three may be rewarded with Makuuchi promotions for the Natsu tournament. | | Okoinujo beat Yonisan 7-4 (an amazing performance today) but fell one point short of drawing level in a tie so Yonisan just hangs on to take the yusho. | | In banzuke news, Yokozuna Pandaazuma and Yokozuna Kakushoyamaii cleared their kadoban status for May. Sekiwake Oskahanada ended his awful mid-basho slump and finished 8-7 but it's not enough for Ozeki promotion this time. Onward. | | Thanks to everyone for playing and see you all back here in May.

Haru Basho 2026 - Day 14
| |
Andrasoyama and Kaito lead going into senshuraku and the yusho will be decided by a death match between them. | | In Juryo it's exactly the same scenario. The two leaders Chindonya and Rikioi meet to settle the winner tomorrow. | | Yonisan leads Makushita with a 12-2 record and fights 11-3 Okoinujo tomorrow. Kotoedo and Muniotoshi will be hoping for an Okoinujo win as they have superior scoring and would have a strong chance of winning a tie-break as long as they win their bouts. | | Good luck to all the contenders.

Haru Basho 2026 - Day 12
| |
Kaito lost and has been caught by Andrasayama. They both lead with 10-2 records. Yokozuna Pandaazuma is the sole pursuer one win behind. | | Rikio won again in Juryo but his shadow Chindonya also won to stay within striking distance. And in Makushita Yonisan's streak finally came to an end with a heavy loss. He still leads but three hopefuls are just behind.

Haru Basho 2026 - Day 11
| |
Kaito returned to winning ways while Andrasoyama lost and so returns to the sole lead with a 10-1 record (and a kinboshi today). | | In Juryo Rikio won again for his tenth. Chindonya remains stubbornly on his tail. Yonisan marches imperiously on to 11/11 in Makushita. Newcomer Muinotoshi is one win behind and hoping for a slip.

Haru Basho 2026 - Day 10
| |
Kaito was perfect until day ten, when he suffered a loss to Hakumadashi. He is now leading 9-1 with Andrasoyama. Yokozuna Pandaazuma is one win behind. | | Rikio is also 9-1 and leads Juryo alone. In Makushita Yonisan is our only remaining undefeated player.

Haru Basho 2026 - Day 8
| |
Kaito won again on day 8 to stay perfect. He is one ahead of the only close pursuer, Andrasoyama. | | Rikio is also perfect and the sole leader of Juryo. And it's exactly the same in Makushita. Yonisan is 8-0 there. A group of six are waiting for a slip. | | Sekiwake Oskahanada's Ozeki run has run into trouble in the form of a three-day losing streak. He will need to win out now for the promotion nod.

Haru Basho 2026 - Day 5
| |
The Makuuchi lead as of day 5 is held by Sekiwake Oskahanada and Kaito. The Sekiwake's Ozeki run is still on and he needs seven more wins in the remaining ten days. A group of six is one win behind that includes Yokozuna Pandaazuma. | | Rikioi has emerged as the sole leader of Juryo and is still unbeaten. Five Makushita hopefuls are also perfect so far.

Haru Basho 2026 - Day 2
| |
Welcome all to the Haru Basho. We have another significant inflow of new players so thanks for participating. | | The spring tournament is living up to its reputation for wildness so far and scores are on the low side as a result. | | On the banzuke, Sekiwake Oskahanada is on an Ozeki run. He needs 12 wins for the nod and has a 2-0 start. Yokozuna Pandaazuma and Yokozuna Kakushoyamaii are both kadoban and therefore need 8 wins to keep their rank. They are off to 1-1 and 2-0 starts respectively. | | Good luck to all the players.
