cell phone re-activation

Hi! I purchased a soft bank pre-paid handset around two years ago when I was studying abroad in Japan. I am now going back to teach English and was wondering if there was any way I could use the same phone and set up a new pre paid account/phone number with soft bank. I don't want to buy a whole handset and pay around ˆê–œ‰~like I did last time.
Is there any way that I could set up an account while using the same handset without having to pay as much as I did last time?

You will have to check with the cell phone carrier, since the phone you purchased was from two years ago it may or may not be compatible.

Is it a softbank prepaid? I'm sure the sim is expired by now, but you may be able to go to a softbank store and get a new prepaid sim. Btw, new prepaid phones and SIM cards start from 5000 yen.
