Mobile data package 2013/3/8 17:12
I'll be travelling to Japan for 30days end of this March. However, i'm very confused with the choice and usage of internet data mobile usage in Japan.

I've read many threads and http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2279.html too.

I'm looking for data plan that can fit 2 ipads and 2 phones (travelling with a friend). Not looking at rent-a-phone. I'm on a budget so i'm looking below 8,000Yen for 30days.

1) eConnect 's 1GB for 30days at 4,100Yen is attractive! Bu 1GB is too little.

i'm intrigued at b-mobile and Softbank's plan, but am confused.

http://www.japanmobiletech.com/2012/05/b-mobile-visitor-sims.html - (This is unlimited data? The price seems too good to be true! )

Have any of you used these as shown above? Can you please advise me? How do they work? How do i apply? Where do i get it? How do i return if i get the pocketwifi?

Thank you guys! Your help is most appreciated!

A pocket wifi sounds like it would fit your needs the best.

I'm on a budget so i'm looking below 8,000Yen for 30days.

Its possible but there may be some limitations, either in a bandwidth or data limit.

Either of these sim's may fit your needs:

You are looking at the wrong info. The softbank plan is a subscription plan. Their rentals are quite a bit more expensive (1500 yen per day). The b-mobile plan you link to was discontinued last year.

Look at b-mobile's current visitor sims. Those will cost about 8000 yen for a 30 day stay, but will either have a 2gb limit or a bandwidth cap that makes streaming services, and maybe voip, possibly unusable.

The other option is to rent a mobile wifi hotspot from one of the cheaper carriers, but in that case you may need to readjust your budget as that will cost roughly twice as much. Here are some other data options:

Hello! Thank you for such a brisk reply!

q1) Sorry but i dont quite understand this. But i saw the products that b-mobile offered, isn't it 3,980Yen? Where is it 8000yen for 30day?

q2) Sorry what does it mean by bandwidth cap? And isnt it 1GB limit? Where is the 2GB limit?

Also, i am concern about the 300kb/s dataspeed maybe too slow... But i dont know how slow is 300kbps.. Can you explain with an explain? Like, how fast will it take to upload a picture on facebook?

If its really too slow, will this apply? http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/turbocharge/index.html

I'm so sorry i'm a newbie in this. I dont get such data plan because i just sign subscription yearly contract with my country's and it didnt really bother me.

Thank you for your help!

The visitor sims have a 14 day valid period. So you would need two of them to cover the length of your trip.

1gb per 14 days for the unlimited speed card.

In that case speed is not really a concern. Its only a concern if you want to use services like skype, in which case it is too slow.
