Hi guys!!! I'm off to japan soon but having difficulty finding a kimono seller in japan which is cheap and good quality. Budget for a kimono would be around 70 to 110 USD dollars. Has anyone bought one before? I'll be staying near Ueno area

New silk kimono typically cost more than ten times your budget. Perhaps you're looking for yukata instead? They look like kimono but are a lighter weight cotton garment typically worn at ryokan or summer festivals. Here's one seller on the Japan Shop section of this website so you can get an idea of what I am talking about: http://www.japan-shop.com/store/1045.html

If you're not looking for quality, there are many cotton or polyester kimonos available within your budget range. They are even easier to handle and washable. You can also buy a "samui" instead which is more like denim trousers and a shirt. It would be easier to move in them, more stylish, and a lot of locals prefer to wear them. A quick internet search on cheap washable men's kimono led me to this shop which is in Ryogoku, not far from Ueno. I'm not sure if they sell off-line, but you can always ask for "washable kimono" at any kimono shop. http://www.rakuten.ne.jp/gold/ohkini/

There are second hand kimono shops that are known to have reasonable prices. www.net-shinei.co.jp/com/ is a great website you can shop from anywhere. I myself have an online store where I rent kimono. http://theryugiya.ecrater.com.au/If you want to go to a real life shop try Googling Used Kimono shops in Tokyo.
