Souvenir for my sensei 2013/5/24 21:23
Hi everyone, I'm from Singapore and I will be travelling to Kyoto and Osaka (arriving at Kansai airport) in two weeks. I am currently learning the Japanese language and intend to do so for a long time :)

I need advice on what souvenir to bring back for my sensei. I want it to be a surprise so I haven't been able to ask her directly. She's from Aomori prefecture, and she hasn't been back home in 3 years and I think she really misses home, so I want to get her something that can remind her of her country, or even something unique to her prefecture, or the Tohoku region. Am hoping this would make a more heartfelt gift! :)

(Crossing my fingers!) Is there anything like the abovementioned I might actually be able to get from the Kansai International Airport, or anywhere in Osaka or Kyoto? All suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you so much :)

When I was stationed in Aomori-ken, what I saw a lot of was Hachinohe wooden horses. Granted, I was about 50km from Hachinohe, but I think everyone in the region knows about these horses. You shouldn't have too hard a time finding these even in Tokyo since Tohoku is the region that is popular now since the tsunami of 2011 and there have been many campaigns to promote items from that region.

How gentle you are!

Aomori... Apples?(^-^;
Here in Tokyo, I often see Aomori Apple juice in some supermarkets.

Shiny is a maker in Aomori and Nebuta is very famous festival.

BTW, I'm unsure but I heard that there is JENGO the directly-managed souvenir store of 3 prefectures of tohoku region in Osaka.
